Musculoskeletal disorders are the leading cause of disability in the US. The annual costs for
bone and joint health is $950 billion or 7.4% of GDP. We believe a key to reducing these
costs is to empower the patient with education about their orthopedic problem and teach
them how to recover at home. To try to reduce healthcare costs while maintaining a high
level of care we have developed CSMI Business Solutions, which combines 24/7 eVisits with
our doctor, and a web based eRehab and education portal called WebHSR.
Life is complicated. In order to make care of your employees more convenient we offer the option of an eVisit for patients in North Carolina. Our easy-to-use, two-way video platform makes connecting with a patient a cinch! Dr. Paul may use an eVisit to help diagnose and treat an established or new patient’s orthopedic problem. In addition he may prescribe medication (for established Charlotte Sports Medicine Institute patients) and an Internet based rehab program (WebHSR) to help aid recovery. For employees of companies who sign up for CSMI Business Solutions, a member of our team is available 24/7 for an eVisit. The annual employer cost is $10 per employee per year and the convenience fee for an eVisit is $50.
We have developed a patient-centered web portal (called WebHSR) that utilizes streaming,
clinician prescribed video instruction to motivate and inform patients in self-care of their
orthopaedic condition, focusing on the importance of a home exercise program. After an
eVisit, Dr Paul may prescribe an eRehab treatment protocol to assist recovery at home. In
certain situations , this may be as effective as going to formal physical therapy and may save
the patient and healthcare system over $750. The $25 monthly WebHSR fee is waived for
CSMI Business Solutions patients.
Our pilot study indicates that orthopedic patients with a pain score of 6 or less (on a scale 0
to 10, 10 being the worst pain a patient has ever experienced) may especially benefit from
utilizing WebHSR. For more information click on the year for Dr Paul’s presentation on eRehab at
the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons meetings in 2014 and 2015.
WebHSR is an educational, internet based streaming
video series used by orthopedic physicians and physical therapists. It was developed to meet
the increasing need of patients to have a better understanding of their orthopedic and sports
medicine related injuries and to encourage them to have an active role in their recovery. The
series uses cutting-edge advanced 3-D animation technology to explain to patients the
anatomy and pathology related to their condition. These visual images reinforce the rationale
for doing their rehab exercises. In addition, we demonstrate the physical therapy exercises
and diagnosis-specific techniques necessary to aid each patient in their recovery.
Our videos focus on the “why” of doing a home exercise program as well as the “how” to do
the exercises. In addition, non-surgical and surgical treatment options are explained. The video
topics in the series are designed to address the most common conditions seen in an
